Interested in becoming a Summer Bridge Scholar?

Begin to immerse yourself in collegiate life at UC Irvine by becoming a Summer Bridge Scholar! This is a 6-week residential program where you take courses that prepare you for the academic rigor of being a college student, and simultaneously gain credit towards your degree. In addition to meeting other students who may come from backgrounds like your own and forging those friendships, you will have the opportunity to connect with UCI staff/faculty, receive personal guidance, participate in community-building events, and discover what the summer in the OC has to offer!

Summer Bridge 2023

Important Dates

  • The program will take place from August 3rd, 2023 – September 14, 2023
    • August 3, 2023: Summer Bridge Housing Move-In
    • August 4 – 5, 2023: SPOP 6 (required)
    • August 6, 2023: Program Welcome & Orientation
    • August 7 – September 13: Summer Session II
    • September 14, 2023: Summer Bridge Housing Move-Out

Application Timeline

  • Application opens on April 22, 2023 at 5:00pm (PST)
  • Application closes on June 4, 2023 at 11:59pm (PST)
    • Final notifications will be released by July 1st, 2023

Summer Bridge Scholarship Eligibility

  • Must be a:
    • High school senior at the time of application to the Summer Bridge Program AND
    • California Resident (includes AB540/undocumented students)
  • Students who meet one or more of the following criteria are eligible to apply:
    • Low-income (as federally established and determined from your 2022-2023 FAFSA/ CA Dream Act)
    • Students from disadvantaged backgrounds/circumstances

Personalized Advising

Summer Bridge scholars are assigned to a counselor who can provide personalized guidance and help students feel supported to thrive at UCI.

Peer Mentor Support

Current UCI undergraduate students serve as Peer Mentors and help Summer Bridge scholars navigate and advance through their first year of college.

Student Success Workshops

Access to SSI’s Gateway Initiative workshops that provide students with the necessary knowledge, tools, and enrichment to ensure academic success.

LARC Scholarship

A scholarship for the on-campus tutoring service. Scholars attend group study sessions for a specific class and gain skills to become successful independent learners.

Priority Registration

The ability to register for classes before a majority of the undergraduate population does. Scholars receive this benefit every quarter during their first year.

Book Loan Program

Access to a bank of resources where students may borrow available textbooks, i-Clickers, and Chromebooks, from the Student Success Initiatives, at no cost.
